With extended desktop there was a lot of moving the window back and forth to tinker with the options. For cloned desktop I had the game pre ready to run in window mode and could change settings on the fly. Then turned on desktopsbs, clicked the close button on the window that popped up (copied down the controls) and ran the game. I disable direct mode and turn off steamvr, set the resolution on the TV (not a 3D TV) to 1920 x 1080, the vive to 1920 x 1200 and stack the vive on top of the TV in display properties. I have been using an external program called DesktopSBS (for 3D TVs by paysplat) in extended/cloned desktop monitor mode.
Arma 3 with head tracking in direct mode with Virtual Desktop, Opentrack and in-game IRtracking on the vive.
